Aldi confirms it has abandoned plans to launch online shopping

Supermarket chain Aldi has dropped its plan to expand into online shopping believing it might affect its ability to continue providing low-cost products for customers. The company dismantled its online team late last year following serious consideration, according to Jordan Lack, Aldi MD of buying. “The greater concern is the impact on cost structure as fundamentally keeping our costs low has a direct impact on the prices we can offer our customers,” he told the Australian Financial Review.

Colorado Court Puts Kroger-Albertsons Merger on Hold

A Denver District Court judge has stopped the Kroger-Albertsons merger in its tracks, cancelling a planned Aug. 12 hearing and setting a trial date of Sept. 30, 2024. The watchdog, which began a probe of supermarket pricing in January, said in an update today that while the investigation is ongoing, there is a lack of evidence to suggest that promotions are unfair.
